Abstract
Abstract Compositions are provided which protect keratinous material such as skin and hair from the deleterious effects of detergents and adverse climatic conditions. Said compositions contain a modified protein and a surface active agent.

A composition for protecting keratinous material from the deleterious effects of detergent or from adverse climatic conditions, said composition comprising (a) an effective amount of a modified protein selected from the group consisting of oxyethylated, oxypropylated, oxybutylated and N,N-dimethyl ethylene diamine modified gelatin, casein, and soy protein, said modified protein having a molecular weight greater than 5,000 and an isoionic point greater than 6; (b) from 0.1% to 90% by weight of a surface-active agent; and (c) a compatible carrier.
