Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 120 words
A process for changing the ionic form of a plurality of ion exchange resins of the same ion exchange type, at least one of the resins being in the physical form of approximately spherical, submicroscopic beads and initially being substantially in a first ionic form, and the balance of the resins being in the physical form of macrobeads and initially being in the second ionic form, which process comprises contacting the macrobeads in the second ionic form with an emulsion of the submicroscopic beads in the first ionic form until sufficient ion exchange occurs between the ions of the submicroscopic beads and the ions of the macrobeads to substantially change the ionic form of at least one of the resins.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 120 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein the submicroscopic beads have diameters in the range from about 0.01 to about 0.5 micrometers.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 32 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein the emulsion contacts the macrobeads until the ion exchange has substantially reached equilibrium, and including the step of subsequently separating the emulsion from the macrobeads.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process according to claim 3 wherein the ion exchange type is anionic.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process according to claim 3 wherein the ion exchange type is cationic.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 74 words
The process according to claim 5 wherein: (a) the submicroscopic beads are beads of weakly acidic, cationic resin, (b) the macrobeads are beads of strongly acidic, cationic resin, (c) the first ionic form is the metallic ion form, (d) the second ionic form is the hydrogen ion form, and (e) sufficient macrobeads are present to convert the submicroscopic beads of the emulsion from substantially the metallic ion form to substantially the hydrogen ion form.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein the macrobeads form a bed, and the emulsion contacts the macrobeads by passing through the bed.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 34 words
The process according to claim 7 wherein sufficient submicroscopic beads in the emulsion are passed through the bed to change the macrobeads from substantially the second ionic form to substantially the first ionic form.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process according to claim 8 wherein the ion exchange type is cationic.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process according to claim 9 wherein the ion exchange type is anionic.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 43 words
The process according to claim 7 wherein the weight ratio of macrobeads to submicroscopic beads in the emulsion passing through the bed is sufficiently large that the submicroscopic beads are changed from substantially the first ionic form to substantially the second ionic form.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process according to claim 11 wherein the ion exchange type is cationic.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process according to claim 11 wherein the ion exchange type is anionic.
