Abstract
Abstract A dual purpose sprayer and spreader device capable of selectively distributing either granular or liquid material upon the ground being traversed. The device includes a hopper supported for travel over the ground, the hopper having a discharge opening in the bottom thereof through which granular material from the hopper falls by gravity onto a rotary impeller which throws the material laterally, the impeller being driven by the ground wheels. To distribute a liquid, a container of liquid, (such as a flexible bag) is inserted in the hopper, the bag having a dispensing tube extending from the lower end thereof, which tube extends through the discharge opening at the bottom of the hopper. The hopper is also provided with a slidable gate which controls the size of the discharge opening from fully open to fully closed and when the tube extends therethrough, the gate functions as a valve for opening and closing the tube. When the tube is open, liquid drops by gravity from the bag through the tube to the rotary impeller and is thrown laterally in the same fashion that dry granular material is distributed by the same device.
