Abstract

Abstract An oil-soluble molybdenum complex of an ashless oxazoline dispersant, preferably an oil-soluble reaction product of a molybdenum compound such as molybdic oxide with 0.5 to 1 molar equivalent of a hydrocarbon substituted mono- and bisoxazolines obtained as a reaction product of hydrocarbyl substituted dicarboxylic acid, ester, or anhydride, for example, polyisobutenylsuccinic anhydride with from 1 to 2 molar equivalents of a 2,2-disubstituted-2-amino-1-alkanols, such as tris-(hydroxymethylamino)methane (THAM), is a useful additive to a lubricating oil since both the sludge dispersant and antifriction properties of said oil are enhanced.
