Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim
127 words
A portable self contained optical character recognition system including a hand held optical scanner which generates an electrical signal independent of distance scanned and representative of the data read by the scanner comprising; a hand held unit housing said scanner, a keyboard and a display, first processor means in said hand held unit controlling said keyboard and display, and a second processor unit in a portable console electrically attached to said hand held unit and including an optical character recognition system, said first processor takes information keyed in from the keyboard and relays it to the optical character recognition unit which in turn relays it to the display after processing, said second processor reading information scanned by the scanner and relaying the read information to the display.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
24 words
The system according to claim 1 wherein the second processor unit includes a tape recording for recording data input into the optical recognition system.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
31 words
The system according to claim 1 wherein the scanner is rotatable with respect to the hand held unit so that it may be used with either the right or left hand.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
127 words
A portable self contained optical character recognition system comprising: a hand held optical scanner capable of reading alpha numeric data as it is scanned across a document; an optical character recognition unit electrically connected to said scanner and housed in a portable, battery powered case; a keyboard mounted on said hand held scanner to enter data that cannot be read by said scanner; a display mounted on said hand held scanner for displaying data read by said scanner, and/or entered through said keyboard; a data processor mounted in said hand held scanner for encoding data entered via said keyboard and displaying said data on said display and sending said data to said recognition unit, and for taking scanned data signals from the recognition unit to be displayed.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
