Abstract
Abstract Method and apparatus for controlling the spark timing of an internal combustion engine is provided, wherein the output of a sensor for detecting the state of a means affecting the engine operation is detected prior to engine start, and the detected value is stored as an initial value. After engine start, the output of the sensor for detecting the state of the means affecting the engine operation is again detected, and this detected value is corrected by the stored initial value. On the basis of the corrected detected value, a command value of ignition point in time (command ignition timing) is calculated and used to control ignition timing.
