Abstract
Abstract Beta-phosphosulfoxy alcohols and preparation thereof by reacting an olefinically unsaturated compound and a poly-thiophosphoric acid with oxygen using actinic radiation as an energy source at a temperature of from -10° to 70° C., preferably in the presence of a dye sensitizer.

A beta phosphosulfoxy alcohol compound of the general formula ##STR12## wherein A is selected from the group consisting of RO-- and RS--, and B is selected from the group consisting of R'O-- and R'S-- and wherein R and R' are individually selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl groups of 1 to 24 carbon atoms, and wherein R" is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkyl group of 1 to 22 carbon atoms, phenyl, naphthyl, anthranyl, phenanthryl and cyclohexyl moieties, said R and R' being optionally substituted, said substitutions being selected from the group consisting of halogens and nitro moieties, and said R" being optionally substituted, said substitutions being selected from the group consisting of halogen, nitro, methoxy, ethoxy, propoxy, butoxy, dialkylamino, hydrogen, methyl, ethyl and ##STR13## wherein A and B are defined as herein.
