Abstract

Abstract Thermoplastic copolyesters which have a minimum relative viscosity of 1.7 and contain (a) 35-47.5 mol % of units of terephthalic acid, (b) 15-2.5 mol % of units of isophthalic acid, (c) 10-30 mol % of units of ethylene glycol and (d) 40-20 mol % of units of diethylene glycol, it being possible for up to 9 mol % of the units of ethylene glycol to be replaced by units of a bisphenol dihydroxyalkyl ether, are very suitable as hot-melt adhesives.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 123 words
A thermoplastic copolyester which has a minimum relative viscosity of 1.7, measured at 30° C. on a solution of 1 g of polyester in 100 ml of a solvent consisting of equal parts of phenol and symmetrical tetrachloroethane, and contains condensed units of a mixture of aromatic dicarboxylic acids and also of aliphatic diols, and which contains, based on the polyester, (a) 35-47.5 mol % of units of terephthalic acid, (b) 15-2.5 mol % of units of isophthalic acid, (c) 10-30 mol % of units of ethylene glycol and (d) 40-20 mol % of units of diethylene glycol, it being possible for up to 9 mol % of the units of ethylene glycol to be replaced by units of a bisphenol dihydroxyalkyl ether.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 123 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 15 words
A copolyester according to claim 1, which has a relative viscosity of 1.7 to 4.0.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 27 words
A copolyester according to claim 1, which contains (a) 40-45 mol % of units of terephthalic acid and (b) 10-5 mol % of units of isophthalic acid.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 27 words
A copolyester according to claim 1, which contains (c) 12.5-25 mol % of units of ethylene glycol and (d) 37.5-25 mol % of units of diethylene glycol.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 15 words
A copolyester according to claim 1, wherein the bisphenol dihydroxyalkyl ether is 2,2-bis-[4'-(β-hydroxyethoxy)-phenyl]-propane or 1,1-bis-[4'-(β-hydroxyethoxy)-phenyl]-cyclohexane.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 28 words
A copolyester according to claim 1, wherein 0.025-0.25 mol % of the dicarboxylic acids and/or diols (a) to (d) has been replaced by at least trifunctional polyester-forming monomers.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
A copolyester according to claim 2 which has a relative viscosity of 1.9 to 3.0.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 15 words
A copolyester according to claim 7 which has a relative viscosity of 1.9 to 2.5.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 10 words
