Abstract

Abstract A magnetic recording and storage device having high wear resistance is produced by providing a magnetic recording and storage device having a film of solid magnetic material which has been bonded to a surface of a rigid substrate. A thin film of a lubricating compound is then applied to the film of magnetic material.

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 145 words
The method for producing an abrasion and wear resistant magnetic recording and storage device comprising the steps of providing a magnetic recording and storage device, said device having a solid magnetic film chemically bonded to a substrate, said solid magnetic film being a material selected from the group consisting of magnetite, gamma ferric oxide, cobalt in combination with magnetite, and cobalt in combination with gamma ferric oxide, applying a film of an organic lubricating material over the surface of said magnetic film, said organic lubricating material selected from the group consisting of silicone based chlorosilane, polyethylene, polyoxyethylene monostearate, morpholine stearate, triethanolamine stearate and mixtures thereof, and removing any excess lubricating material from the surface of the magnetic film by polishing said film of lubricating material such that a film of less than 5000 A of lubricating material remains on the surface of said magnetic film.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
The method of claim 1 further comprising heating said device to approximately 80° C. prior to applying said film of lubricating material.
Claim 4
