Abstract

Abstract A process for bonding a ligand to a carrier through the use of a pyrimidine derivative of the formula: ##STR1## in which R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are each independently hydrogen, hydroxyl, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, loweralkylthio, loweracylamino, nitro, cyano, carboxamido, loweralkylsulphonyl, loweralkoxycarbonyl, phenyl, trifluoromethyl or chloromethyl, The ligand or the carrier containing at least one functional group that reacts with the pyrimidine derivative.

Claim 2
Dependent Claim 124 words
In a process for bonding a ligand to a carrier by reacting the ligand with the carrier after a suitable activation step, the ligand and the carrier each containing at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of OH, NH 2 , NHR 5 , CONH 2 , CONHR 5 and SH, the improvement which comprises activating the carrier or the ligand with a pyrimidine derivative of the formula ##STR16## in which R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are each independently hydrogen, hydroxyl, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower-alkylthio, loweracylamino, nitro, cyano, carboxamido, loweralkylsulphonyl, loweralkoxycarbonyl, phenyl, trifluoromethyl or chloromethyl, provided that at least two of R 1 to R 4 are halogen; prior to the bonding reaction.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 103 words
The process according to claim 1, in which said carrier is an activated polymeric carrier that has at least one unit thereof of the formula: ##STR17## wherein T represents atoms of the polymeric carrier; X is a divalent oxygen or sulfur atom, --NH--, --NHR 5 --, --CONH-- or --CONR 5 --, wherein R 5 is lower alkyl; R is independently hydrogen, hydroxyl, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, loweralkylthio, loweracylamino, nitro, cyano, carboxamide, loweralkylsulphonyl, lower-alkoxycarbonyl, phenyl, trifluoromethyl or chloromethyl, provided that at least one R is halogen; and a is 1 or 2, b is 4-a, c is 0 or 1 and d is 2-c.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 29 words
The process according to claim 1, in which said ligand is activated by a condensation reaction with said pyrimidine derivative and said activated ligand is reacted with said carrier.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
