Platinum coordination compounds having the formula: [Pt(II)A.sub.x ((OOC).sub.2 --CRR.sub.1)] wherein: x = 1 or 2; R and R 1 are selected from the group consisting of H, lower alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, alkoxy, OH, or combine with the carbon atom to form a cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl group; when x = 1, A is HR 2 N--CHR 3 --CHR 4 --NR 5 H and when x = 2, A is H 2 NR 6 or an amino acid, wherein R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of H, CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , hydroxy and lower alkoxy, provided that R 2 and R 5 may also be aryl or aralkyl and each R 6 is the same or different and is selected from the group consisting of H, lower alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, hydroxy lower alkyl, hydroxyl- and alkoxylamines, and alkoxyl alkyl amines.
