Abstract

Abstract A memory type tuning system having memory locations for storing information corresponding to a limited number of preferred tuning positions includes apparatus for examining the contents of each of the memory locations when information corresponding to a tuning position is being entered to determine if duplication information corresponding to the same tuning position has already been entered in one of the memory locations. If so, the new information is entered in the memory location containing the duplicate information, rather than in an unused memory location to prevent multiple entries of the same information with the resulting undesirable loss of available memory locations.

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 206 words
An apparatus for tuning a receiver to a predetermined number of preferred tuning positions less than the total number of tuning positions available in a predetermined tuning range, comprising: memory means including a number of memory locations equal to said preferred number of tuning positions for storing binary signals; control means for selectively entering binary signals into one of said memory locations during an entry mode and retrieving binary signals from one of said memory locations during a retrieval mode; input means for generating binary signals representing information corresponding to any one of said total number of tuning positions during said entry mode; decoder means for locating an unused memory location containing binary signals representing nondesired information; comparison means for generating a match signal when a duplicate memory location containing binary signals representing information corresponding to the same tuning position as the information represented by the binary signals generated by said input means is located; and said control means entering the binary signals generated by said input means during said entry mode into said duplicate memory location in response to the generation of said match signal and otherwise entering the binary signal generated by said input means during said entry mode into said unused memory location.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 246 words
The apparatus recited in claim 1 wherein said memory means includes an additional memory location; each of said memory locations has its location within said memory means identified by a corresponding address; said control means includes address counter means for successively generating binary signals representing the addresses of said memory locations, said address counter means generating an overflow signal when the binary signals representing all the addresses except the address of said additional memory location have been generated; said control means includes transfer means for coupling binary signals between said address counter means and said additional memory location; said decoder means includes means for generating a nondesired information signal when said unused memory location is located; said transfer means coupling the binary signals contained in said address counter means to said additional memory location during said entry mode in response to the generation of said nondesired information signal; said address counter means being disabled from generating further binary signals in response to the generation of said match signal; said transfer means coupling the binary signals contained in said additional memory means to said address counter means during said entry mode in response to the generation of said overflow signal; said control means entering the binary signals generated by said input means into the memory location having an address represented by the binary signals contained in said address counter means during said entry mode in response to the generation of one of said match and overflow signals.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 70 words
The apparatus recited in claim 2 wherein said transfer means couples the binary signals contained in said address counter means to said additional memory means during said retrieval mode in response to the generation of said match so that said additional memory location selectively stores the binary signals representing the address of the memory location containing the binary signals representing information corresponding to one of said tuning positions last retrieved.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 144 words
The apparatus recited in claim 3 wherein each of said memory locations includes a display portion for storing binary signals representing tuning position display information for visually identifying a corresponding one of said total number of tuning positions; said input means includes display means for selectively generating binary signals representing tuning position display information for any one of said total number of tuning positions; said decoder means decodes the binary signals contained in said display portion of each of said memory locations to determine whether they correspond to display information corresponding to other than one of said total number of tuning positions in said predetermined tuning range; and said comparison means compares the binary signals contained in the display portion of each of said memory locations with the binary signals presently generated by said display means of said input means for an equivalence therebetween.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 89 words
The apparatus recited in claim 4 wherein said address counter means successively generates binary signals representing addresses of said memory locations during said retrieval mode unless said match signal is generated; said input counter means successively generates binary signals representing tuning position display information in response to the generation of said overflow signal during said retrieval mode; and said transfer means transfers the binary signals contained in said address counter means to said additional memory location during said retrieval mode in response to the generation of said match signal.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 122 words
The apparatus recited in claim 4 wherein said control means includes means for generating a power up signal when power is applied to said receiver; said transfer means couples the binary signals contained in said additional memory means to said address counter in response to the generation of said power up signal; and said control means includes second transfer means for coupling binary signals between said display portions of said memory locations and said input counter means; said second transfer means coupling the binary signals contained in the display portion of the memory location having an address represented by the binary signals presently contained in said address counter during said retrieval mode in response to the generation of said power up signal.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 39 words
The apparatus recited in claim 6 wherein said means for generating an overflow signal includes an overflow register for generating said overflow signal when binary signals corresponding to a preselected count have been generated at least twice in succession.
