Abstract
Abstract An irradiated polyethylene tube is supported on a mandrel with adhesive material applied against its outside surface whereupon a first tubular layer is braided against the adhesive means followed by a tubular layer of neoprene rubber followed by braiding a second tubular layer against the neoprene rubber to define an assembly which is subjected to a controlled temperature environment to simultaneously vulcanize the rubber and bond the tube and tubular layers together defining the hose construction as a unitary structure.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
106 words
A method of making a hose construction comprising the steps of irradiating an uncured polyethylene tube to crosslink the molecules thereof and thereby cure said tube, applying a layer of a halogenated elastomeric based primer to the outer surface of said tube, applying a layer of an ethylene propylene copolymer based adhesive over said primer, applying a tubular reinforcing layer around said adhesive layer, applying a layer of unvulcanized rubber around said reinforcing layer, applying a second tubular reinforcing layer around said layer of unvulcanized rubber, and subjecting said tube and layers to a controlled temperature environment to vulcanize said rubber and complete said hose construction.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
