Abstract
Abstract A germicidal herbicide for agricultural and horticultural purposes, which comprises at least one compound as an active ingredient, of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R 1 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, X represents S, SO or SO 2 , and R 2 and R 3 which may be the same or different representing hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an oxyalkylene group having 1 to 20 units of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide, 2-sulfoethyl or a salt thereof, or 2-carboxyethyl group.

A method of inhibiting the growth of noxious weeds which comprises applying a herbidically effective amount of at least one compound of the formula: ##STR27## wherein R 1 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, X represents S, SO or SO 2 , and R 2 and R 3 which may be the same or different represent hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an oxyalkylene group having 1 to 20 units of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide, 2-sulfoethyl or a salt thereof, or 2-carboxyethyl group to plants.
