Abstract

Abstract An aromatic polymer is prepared by polymerizing a diphenolate compound, of a dialkali metal salt of a diphenol with a dihalodiphenyl compound, of a dihalogenobenzenoid compound having an electron withdrawing group in at least one of the positions ortho or para to each of the halogen atoms, at 200 DEG C. to 400 DEG C. in the presence of from 0.1 to 30% by weight of an inert nonpolar aromatic reaction lubricant.
