Abstract
Abstract The invention relates to the combination of a container and a cap for closing that container, the container having a mouth, the upper surface of which defining a practically flat plane, and being provided with an upstanding rim extending along the entire perifery, the cap having an upper panel and a sealing channel filled with sealant surrounding this panel, the inner diameter of said channel being smaller than the inner diameter of the rim and larger than the inner diameter of the upper surface of the mouth of the container, while the depth of the sealing channel is in excess of the height of the rim over said upper surface of the mouth.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
145 words
A combination of a container and a closure cap; said container having a mouth internally defined by a substantially planar upwardly facing seating surface; an upstanding rim dispersed radially outwardly and axially upwardly of said seating surface, and cap retaining abutment means spaced axially downwardly from said rim; said closure cap having a central panel, downwardly opening a sealing channel surrounding said central panel, a skirt extending down from said sealing channel, said sealing channel having a deformable sealing material therein, and said skirt having retaining means; and said closure cap being seated on said container in mouth sealing relation with said retaining means engaging said abutment means and urging said sealing channel down over said rim with said sealing material being deformed around said rim and deformation of said sealing material being limited by the seating of said central panel on said seating surface.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
32 words
The combination of claim 1, characterized in that the radial width of the rim amounts to only 1/5 to 1/2 of the radial width of the entire upper surface of the mouth.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
20 words
The combination of claim 2, characterized in that the radial width of the rim is from 1 to 3 mm.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
15 words
The combination of claim 1, characterized in that the rim is semicircular in radial section.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
31 words
The combination of claim 1 wherein said container axially below said rim extends radially outwardly of said rim, and said sealing material is in part disposed radially outwardly of said rim.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
36 words
The combination of claim 1 wherein said container axially below said rim extends radially outwardly of said rim, and said sealing material is in part disposed radially outwardly of said rim and axially below said rim.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
32 words
The combination of claim 1 wherein said sealing channel joins said central panel in inwardly radially spaced relation to said rim, and said sealing material being disposed radially inwardly of said rim.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
20 words
The combination of claim 7 wherein said sealing channel terminates abruptly into said central panel generally at right angles thereto.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
38 words
The combination of claim 1 wherein said sealing channel joins said central panel in inwardly radially spaced relation to said rim, and said sealing material being disposed radially inwardly of said rim and down to said seating surface.
