In a grease having extreme-pressure properties comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity, thickened to grease consistency with an organic grease thickener, the improvement comprising the addition of a minor portion sufficient to impart extreme-pressure properties of a dispersion of hydrated potassium borate having a mean particle size of less than one micron and a boron to potassium ratio of about 2.5 to 4.5.
