Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 88 words
A method for reducing squeak in disc brakes caused by contact between the metal surfaces of the friction pad and brake support comprising applying a high molecular weight, thermally stable polymer composition to at least one of said metal surfaces in an amount sufficient to eliminate squeak, said polymer composition comprising a high molecular weight acrylic copolymer containing at least about 50% of a C 1 -C 8 ester of acrylic acid and at least about 1% of a monomer providing crosslinkable sites on the main polymer chain.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 88 words
A method for reducing squeak in disc brakes caused by contact between the metal surfaces of the friction pad and brake support comprising applying a high molecular weight, thermally stable polymer composition to at least one of said metal surfaces in an amount sufficient to eliminate squeak, said polymer composition comprising a high molecular weight acrylic copolymer containing at least about 50% of a C 1 -C 8 ester of acrylic acid and at least about 1% of a monomer providing crosslinkable sites on the main polymer chain.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
A method of claim 1 wherein said monomer providing crosslinkable sites is a monomer containing vinyl unsaturation and pendant functional groups which provide crosslinkable sites.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 13 words
A method of claim 2 wherein said monomer providing crosslinkable sites comprises methylolacrylamide.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 26 words
A method of claim 1 wherein said high molecular weight, thermally stable polymer composition is applied to the metal surface of the disc brake friction pad.
