Abstract

Abstract A batting practice device is disclosed which has an open ended cylinder of reinforced rubber-like material of at least two plys and weighing at least ten pounds per foot. The cylinders being suspended by a sling of not less than three cables, terminating in a loop at an upper end portion for tying to an overhead support. The loop at the top is formed by bending the cables into an eye shape, and clamping the same. The cylinder is supported by means of apertures near its upper end, the lower end of the sling being secured therein and clamped in place.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim 114 words
A batting practice device comprising, in combination, an open ended hollow cylinder, said cylinder being formed of an elastomeric material, a sling for said cylinder, said sling including at least three support members, support means for securing said support members at a position above the cylinder for swingably supporting said cylinder above a surface, said cylinder having the properties of resilience and resistance to deformation under the blow of a bat to simulate the striking of a ball with a bat similar to a reinforced rubber tube of at least two plies and weighing at least ten pounds per foot, whereby a batter can practice repetitive swing at a strike area on said cylinder.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 114 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 30 words
In the device of claim 1, said support members being formed at their upper ends to form a mounting eye, and means for securing said eye to said support means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 17 words
In the device of claim 2, said cylinder having a length of at least twice its diameter.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
In the device of claim 3, said support members of said sling being woven wire cables
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 27 words
In the device of claim 4, said cylinder being a reinforced rubber like tube of at least two plys and weighing at least 10 pound per foot.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 16 words
In the device of claim 2, said support members of said sling being woven wire cables
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 16 words
In the device of claim 1 said support members of said sling being woven wire cables.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 89 words
A batting practice device and a bat comprising, in combination, an open ended cylinder, said cylinder being formed of an elastomeric material, a sling for said cylinder, said sling including at least three support members, means for securing said support members at symmetrically spaced locations atop the cylinder, support means for securing said support members at a position above the cylinder for swingably supporting said cylinder above a surface a bat for swingingly engaging said cylinder, whereby a batter can practice repetitive swings with the bat at said cylinder.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 89 words
A batting practice device and a bat comprising, in combination, an open ended cylinder, said cylinder being formed of an elastomeric material, a sling for said cylinder, said sling including at least three support members, means for securing said support members at symmetrically spaced locations atop the cylinder, support means for securing said support members at a position above the cylinder for swingably supporting said cylinder above a surface a bat for swingingly engaging said cylinder, whereby a batter can practice repetitive swings with the bat at said cylinder.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 24 words
In the combination of claim 8, said cylinder includes an uninterrupted strike area disposed around a majority of the circumferential periphery of said cylinder.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 22 words
In the combination of claim 8, said cylinder, includes an uninterrupted strike area disposed around the entire circumferential periphery of said cylinder.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 30 words
In the combination of claim 8, said support members being formed at their upper ends to form a mounting eye, and means for securing said eye to said support means.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 17 words
In the combination of claim 11, said cylinder having a length of at least twice its diameter.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 16 words
In the combination of claim 8, said support members of said sling being woven wire cables.
