Abstract

Abstract An improved process for preparing synthetic ferrierites having the absorption and catalytic properties characteristic of 5 to 8 angstrom zeolites which comprises promoting an alkaline reaction mixture comprising Group I and/or Group II cations, a source of silica, a source of alumina with lithium cations. The promoted reaction mixture is seeded with natural or synthetic ferrierite seeds, and heated to convert the mass to the synthetic ferrierite.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 58 words
A process for preparing synthetic ferrierite which comprises: (a) preparing an alkaline reaction mixture which contains Group I and/or Group II cations, a source of alumina, a source of silica, water, powdered ferrierite seeds and promotional amounts of lithium cations; and (b) heating the reaction mixture at a temperature of about 180° to 325° C to form ferrierite.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 58 words
A process for preparing synthetic ferrierite which comprises: (a) preparing an alkaline reaction mixture which contains Group I and/or Group II cations, a source of alumina, a source of silica, water, powdered ferrierite seeds and promotional amounts of lithium cations; and (b) heating the reaction mixture at a temperature of about 180° to 325° C to form ferrierite.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said reaction mixture contains powdered, natural, or synthetic ferrierite seeds in a concentration of 0.1 to 10% by weight.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 14 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said heating step is conducted at superatmospheric pressure.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said reaction is conducted at autogenous pressure.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 22 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the reaction mixture has the formula: 0.5-1.5 Li.sub.2 O:0.25-1.5 BaO:Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 :6-30 SiO.sub.2 :50-600 H.sub.2 O
Claim 7

The process of claim 1 wherein the Group I and/or Group II cations are derived from hydroxides of sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium, magnesium, barium, strontium, and calcium.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 50 words
In a process for preparing synthetic ferrierite wherein an alkaline reaction mixture containing Group I and/or Group II cations, a source of alumina, a source of silica, water and powdered ferrierite seeds is heated to form ferrierite, the improvement comprising: adding promotional amounts of lithium cations to the reaction mixture.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 50 words
In a process for preparing synthetic ferrierite wherein an alkaline reaction mixture containing Group I and/or Group II cations, a source of alumina, a source of silica, water and powdered ferrierite seeds is heated to form ferrierite, the improvement comprising: adding promotional amounts of lithium cations to the reaction mixture.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 23 words
The process according to claim 8, wherein the Group I and Group II cations are added to the reaction mixture as the hydroxides.
Claim 12
