A process for producing a carbohydrate-phenolic resol resin which comprises the steps of: a. reacting in the presence of an acid catalyst the following ingredients: 1. an aldose saccharide 2. a phenolic compound having the formula ##STR7## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of C 1 to C 3 alkyl, C 1 to C 3 alkoxy, halogen, hydroxy and hydrogen, and
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 63 words
A process for producing a carbohydrate-phenolic resol resin which comprises the steps of: a. reacting in the presence of an acid catalyst the following ingredients: 1. an aldose saccharide 2. a phenolic compound having the formula ##STR7## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of C 1 to C 3 alkyl, C 1 to C 3 alkoxy, halogen, hydroxy and hydrogen, and
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 45 words
urea to form a liquid resin wherein the water produced in condensation is less than about 5 moles per mole of aldose; and b. reacting said liquid resin with a lower aliphatic aldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst to form said resol resin.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 45 words
urea to form a liquid resin wherein the water produced in condensation is less than about 5 moles per mole of aldose; and b. reacting said liquid resin with a lower aliphatic aldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst to form said resol resin.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 14 words
A process as defined in claim 1 wherein the aldose saccharide is a hexose.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
A process as defined in claim 1 wherein the phenolic compound is phenol.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 15 words
A process as defined in claim 1 wherein the aldose saccharide is derived from starch.
