Abstract
Abstract Disclosed are optically active anthracyclinones and their daunosaminyl derivatives, which are useful for the treatment of malignant diseases, particularly sarcomas, breast cancer, bronchogenic carcinoma, malignant lymphomas, neuroblastomas, acute leukemia and bladder cancer.

Optically active anthracyclinones of the formulae IV' and IV" ##STR6## wherein R 1 is hydrogen and R 2 and R 3 are the same and are hydrogen, methyl, methoxy, chlorine or bromine; or R 2 and R 3 are both hydrogen and R 1 is methyl, methoxy, chlorine or bromine; or R 1 and R 3 are both hydrogen and R 2 is methoxy with the proviso that R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are not all simultaneously hydrogen in the case of formula IV'.
