A method of treating a mammal afflicted with depression comprising administering to said mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising a compound of the formula ##STR4## where R is hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an aralkyl group of which the alkyl contains 1 or 2 carbon atoms; X is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy or alkylthio, the alkyl of each containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a halogen atom; A is --CO-- or --CH 2 --; and n is 1 to 2; and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof; in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor.
