Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 24
Claim 1
Independent Claim 82 words
A process for coating a surface with electrically chargeable particles of material, which comprises passing the surface to be coated through or past an excited cloud of coating material having a surface resistivity of less than 10 12 Ω or a volume resistivity of less than 10 11 Ω cm., the excited cloud having been formed in an alternating electric field between two electrodes, one of which comprises a rotating drum which carries a metered supply of the particles of coating material.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 82 words
A process for coating a surface with electrically chargeable particles of material, which comprises passing the surface to be coated through or past an excited cloud of coating material having a surface resistivity of less than 10 12 Ω or a volume resistivity of less than 10 11 Ω cm., the excited cloud having been formed in an alternating electric field between two electrodes, one of which comprises a rotating drum which carries a metered supply of the particles of coating material.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 30 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the surface to be coated is electrically conducting or is carried on an electrically conducting backing and itself forms the second electrode.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 18 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the surface to be coated is passed between two electrodes.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the surface to be coated is the surface of a continuous web.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the surface to be coated is oriented so that during bombardment by the particles it faces generally downwards.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 25 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the particles in the excited cloud are caused to move in a generally upward and downward direction.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 17 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the surface to be coated is a metal surface.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 23 words
A process as claimed in claim 7, wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of copper, aluminium, nickel and stainless steel.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 17 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the surface to be coated is a non-metal surface.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 30 words
A process as claimed in claim 9, wherein the non-metal surface is selected from the group consisting of paper, textile fabric, rubber, natural plastic material and synthetic plastic material surfaces.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 38 words
A process as claimed in claim 10, wherein the non-metal surface is a synthetic plastic material selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, linear polyester, polyurethane, polyepoxide, unsaturated polyester, phenylformaldehyde resin and cellulose acetate surfaces.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 29 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein one electrode is maintained at ground potential and the other electrode is connected to the means for applying the alternating voltage.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process as claimed in claim 2, wherein the alternating voltage is applied to the rotatable drum which is otherwise electrically isolated.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 19 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the particles have a surface resistivity less than 10 12 Ω.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 20 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the particles have a volume resistivity less than 10 11 Ω cm.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 14 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the particles comprise an inorganic material.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 17 words
A process as claimed in claim 16, wherein the particles have at least a content of metal.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process as claimed in claim 17, wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of aluminium, brass, copper and silver.
Claim 20
Dependent Claim 26 words
A process as claimed in claim 17, wherein the particles comprise a core of a non-conductive material which is coated with a layer of a metal.
Claim 21
Dependent Claim 15 words
A process as claimed in claim 19, wherein the non-conducting core is a glass core.
Claim 22
Dependent Claim 15 words
