Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 83 words
A method for forming an adherent, wear and fatigue resistant, protective film on a surface of a metal object, prior to contact of the object with another metal surface, which comprises: a. coating and reacting the surface of the object with a solution of dinonylphenyl hydrogen phosphonate in a non-reactive solvent; b. thereafter removing the non-reactive solvent with a solvent in which the non-reactive solvent is soluble; and, c. drying the metal object after removal of the non-reactive solvent from the surface thereof.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 83 words
A method for forming an adherent, wear and fatigue resistant, protective film on a surface of a metal object, prior to contact of the object with another metal surface, which comprises: a. coating and reacting the surface of the object with a solution of dinonylphenyl hydrogen phosphonate in a non-reactive solvent; b. thereafter removing the non-reactive solvent with a solvent in which the non-reactive solvent is soluble; and, c. drying the metal object after removal of the non-reactive solvent from the surface thereof.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method of claim 1 in which the non-reactive solvent is selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbon solvents, mineral oils and esters.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 13 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the non-reactive solvent is a non-lubricating solvent.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 28 words
The method of claim 1 in which the dinonylphenyl hydrogen phosphonate is incorporated into the non-reactive solvent in an amount from about 0.001 to about 5%, by weight.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 28 words
The method of claim 1 in which the dinonylphenyl hydrogen phosphonate is incorporated into the non-reactive solvent in an amount from about 0.1 to about 3%, by weight.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 22 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the reaction takes place at a temperature within the range of 150° F to 250° F.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 58 words
A method for forming an adherent, wear and fatigue resistant, protective film on a surface of a metal object, prior to contact of the object with another metal surface, which comprises: a. coating and reacting the surface of the object with dinonylphenyl hydrogen phosphonate alone, and b. removing excess dinonylphenyl hydrogen phosphonate from the surface of the object.
Claim 9
Independent Claim 58 words
A method for forming an adherent, wear and fatigue resistant, protective film on a surface of a metal object, prior to contact of the object with another metal surface, which comprises: a. coating and reacting the surface of the object with dinonylphenyl hydrogen phosphonate alone, and b. removing excess dinonylphenyl hydrogen phosphonate from the surface of the object.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 22 words
The method of claim 7 wherein the reaction takes place at a temperature within the range of 150° F to 250° F.
