Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 60 words
A process for upgrading asphalt which consists essentially of admixing and forming a homogeneous blend of coal-derived asphaltenes with a marginal asphalt which has a potential air-blown viscosity-penetration index lower than about 2.5 × 10 5 , and air blowing the homogeneous blend to yield an asphalt composition having a viscosity-penetration index higher than about 2.5 × 10 5 .
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 60 words
A process for upgrading asphalt which consists essentially of admixing and forming a homogeneous blend of coal-derived asphaltenes with a marginal asphalt which has a potential air-blown viscosity-penetration index lower than about 2.5 × 10 5 , and air blowing the homogeneous blend to yield an asphalt composition having a viscosity-penetration index higher than about 2.5 × 10 5 .
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the homogeneous blending of asphalt and asphaltenes is conducted at a temperature between about 200° and 800° F.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 29 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the coal-derived asphaltenes are employed in a quantity between about 1-50 weight percent, based on the total weight of the composition.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the asphaltenes are derived from solvent refined coal.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 15 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the asphaltenes are derived from hydrogenated coal.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 15 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the asphaltenes are derived from coal tar.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 13 words
An improved asphalt composition produced in accordance with the process of claim 1.
