Abstract
Abstract A process for preparing 5-(alkoxy- and aminoethylthio)methylthiazole compounds via displacement of the trisubstituted phosphonium group from 5-(trisubstituted phosphonium)methylthiazole compounds is disclosed.

A process for preparing a compound of the formula: ##STR3## in which: R 1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; and R 2 is methoxy, ethoxy, n-propoxy, n-butoxy, i-butoxy, t-butoxy or --SCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 ; comprising reacting a compound of the formula: ##STR4## in which: R 1 is defined as above; R 3 is lower alkyl or phenyl; and X is halo, with a compound of the formula R 2 --H where R 2 is defined as above in an polar organic solvent and in the presence of a strong base.
