Abstract

Abstract A drum support apparatus including outboard and inboard hubs having outer surfaces adapted for interface fitting with the inside surface of a drum. The hubs while being supported on a shaft that is cantilevered from a frame, provide support for the drum in the form of a plurality of spaced equidistant lobes located on their outer surfaces. The lobes reduce the load required to properly seat the drum against the hubs and thereby decreases the possibility of drum run-out by reducing the contact area when the interface fit of the drum/hub combination occurs. The shaft is supported at its outboard end by a removable support bracket.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 71 words
In a drum support apparatus including a shaft, outboard and inboard endbells releasably connected by tie-rods and adapted to be placed on the shaft for supporting a drum thereon; the improvement comprising: non-penetrating means on the surface of said outboard and inboard endbells immediately adjacent the inner surface of said drum for reducing the contact area where interface fit between the endbells and the drum occurs to thereby diminish drum run-out.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 71 words
In a drum support apparatus including a shaft, outboard and inboard endbells releasably connected by tie-rods and adapted to be placed on the shaft for supporting a drum thereon; the improvement comprising: non-penetrating means on the surface of said outboard and inboard endbells immediately adjacent the inner surface of said drum for reducing the contact area where interface fit between the endbells and the drum occurs to thereby diminish drum run-out.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 13 words
The improvement of claim 1 wherein said means is a plurality of lobes.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 14 words
The improvement of claim 2 wherein said lobes are spaced equidistant from each other.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 10 words
The improvement of claim 1 wherein said shaft is cantilevered.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 88 words
A support for reducing drum run-out of the photoconductive drum in a reproduction machine comprising: a. a shaft cantileverly mounted within said reproduction machine for supporting said drum, and b. outboard and inboard endbells mounted on said shaft having outer surface interface fitting means thereon for contacting without penetration the inside surface of said drum from a series of discretely spaced points whereby continuous contact between the inside surface of the drum and the outside surface of the endbells is diminished with a resultant decrease in drum run-out.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 88 words
A support for reducing drum run-out of the photoconductive drum in a reproduction machine comprising: a. a shaft cantileverly mounted within said reproduction machine for supporting said drum, and b. outboard and inboard endbells mounted on said shaft having outer surface interface fitting means thereon for contacting without penetration the inside surface of said drum from a series of discretely spaced points whereby continuous contact between the inside surface of the drum and the outside surface of the endbells is diminished with a resultant decrease in drum run-out.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 110 words
In a xerographic apparatus including a photosensitive drum and a frame within which the xerographic apparatus is mounted, a shaft mounted on said frame, at least one endbell having an outer surface thereon and adapted to be placed on said shaft for supporting said drum by seating against said drum, and means for securing said endbell to said drum, the improvement comprising: a series of lobes on said outer surface of said endbell for reducing the load required to properly seat said end support against the drum without penetration and thereby decrease the possibility of drum run-out occurring by reducing the contact area between said drum and said end support.
Claim 9
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 19 words
The improvement of claim 6 wherein said lobes are spaced equidistant about the outer surface of said end support.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 16 words
The improvement of claim 6 wherein said lobes are tapered toward the interior of said drum.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 10 words
The improvement of claim 6 wherein said shaft is cantilevered.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 46 words
The improvement of claim 6 wherein said lobes are spaced equidistant about the outer surface of said end support and tapered toward the interior of said drum, and wherein said drum is a hollow cylinder with one end support located at each end of said drum.
