Abstract

Abstract An intake manifold for a multicylinder internal combustion engine has a riser connectable to a carburetor and branch pipes connecting the riser and each suction port of respective cylinders of the engine, and is characterized by being provided with orifice means located at a position in each said branch pipe for defining the cross sectional area of the position to a preselected magnitude thereby rendering pressure in each said branch pipe and each said intake ports of the cylinder equal. The orifice means can be constituted by a plate-shaped gasket having orifices to be located in the positions in each said branch pipes.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 128 words
An intake manifold for a multicylinder internal combustion engine including a riser connected to a carburetor and branch pipes connecting the riser to intake ports of respective cylinders of the engine, the manifold being separable from the engine at an interface lying in a plane intersecting positions in each of the respective branch pipes, wherein the improvement comprises: a flat gasket inserted at said interface and having orifices located at said positions in said respective branch pipes, the area of each orifice being individually and separately predetermined to equalize the pressure drops across said orifices, wherein each orifice is circular in cross section, and the area of at least one of the orifices is smaller than the cross-sectional area of its respective branch pipe at said intersecting plane.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 128 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
An intake manifold according to claim 1 wherein each orifice is approximately concentric with its respective branch pipe.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 67 words
An intake manifold according to claim 1 further comprising at least one auxiliary opening through said gasket between the bottom of said at least one orifice having an area smaller than the cross-sectional area of its respective branch pipe and the lowest point of the adjacent wall of the respective branch pipe for permitting liquid fuel condensed on the walls of the intake manifold to flow therethrough.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
An intake manifold according to claim 3 wherein the auxiliary opening is circular in cross section.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 19 words
An intake manifold according to claim 3 wherein the auxiliary opening intersects the wall of the respective branch pipe.
