Abstract

Abstract Polymeric alkyl-hydroxy benzyl N-substituted amines having a high degree of ring formation are derived from the condensation reaction of C8-C40 aliphatic alkyl substituted hydroxy aromatic, an aldehyde and an amine, wherein the molar ratio of said aromatic to said amine is about 2 to one, with said aldehyde being present in a molar amount in excess of said aromatic. These novel amines are useful as a detergent and/or antioxidant additive for liquid hydrocarbons, e.g., in lubricating oils for gasoline engines that have a two stroke cycle.
