Abstract Polymer compositions having enhanced oxygen index values as measured by ASTM Method D-2863-70 are disclosed, which compositions contain effective amounts of a bromo or chloro derivative of stilbene.

The composition of claim 1, wherein said additive compound is selected from the group consisting of alpha, beta-stilbene dibromide, alpha, beta-stilbene dichloride and tetrachloro stilbene, said additive compound being present in an amount sufficient to enhance the oxygen index of said polymer composition to a level of about 27 or greater as measured according to ASTM 2863-70.
