Abstract Halogenated 4-trifluoromethyl-diphenyl-ether compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which R 1 is alkylthio of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkylsulfinyl or alkylsulfonyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or aminothiocarbonyl; R 2 is hydrogen or methyl; X 1 is halogen; and X 2 is hydrogen or halogen; Are outstandingly effective as herbicides, particularly as selective herbicides.
