Organosilane-containing anionic detergent composition

Claim 2

A detergent composition capable of imparting soil release benefits to metallic and vitreous surfaces contacted therewith consisting essentially of: a. an organosilane having the formula ##STR17## or a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or Z(OC.sub.2 H.sub.2x).sub.m where x is 2 to 4, m is 1 to 20, and Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbons, or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; a is 0 to 2; R 3 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; b is 1 to 3; c is 0 or 1; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x, m and Z are as defined above, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided that there is no X - when R 4 is oxygen; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur, or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 3 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30 carbon atoms; b. a water-soluble organic anionic detergent in a weight ratio of organosilane to detergent of from 1:1 to 1:10,000; and c. a source of alkalinity in an amount such that the pH of a 0.2% aqueous solution of the composition lies in the range 8.5-10.5, said source being selected from the group consisting of water-soluble inorganic and organic bases.

Claim 3

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR18##or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is 2 to 4, and m is 1 to 20; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; a is 0 to 2; b is 1 to 3; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x, m and Z are as defined above, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided that when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 3 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 4

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR19##or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is 2 to 4, and m is 1 to 20; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; a is 0 or 1; d is 1 or 2 provided a+d does not exceed 2; b is 1 to 3; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x, m and Z are as defined above, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided that when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 5

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR20##or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is 2 to 4, and m is 1 to 20; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; a is 0 to 2; R 3 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x, m and Z are as defined above, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided that when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 3 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 6

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR21##or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is 2 to 4, and m is 1 to 20; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; a is 0 or 1; d is 1 or 2 provided a+d does not exceed 2; R 3 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl to arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x, m and Z are as defined above, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided that when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 3 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 7

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR22## or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is 2 to 4, and m is 1 to 20; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; a is 0 or 1; d is 1 or 2 provided a+d does not exceed 2; b is 1 to 3; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x, m and Z are as defined above, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided than when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 8

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR23## or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is 2 to 4, and m is 1 to 20; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; a is 0 or 1; d is 1 or 2 provided a+d does not exceed 2; b is 1 to 3; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x, m and Z are as defined above, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided than when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 9

The composition of claim 1 in which said organosilane has the formula ##STR24##or a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or Z(OC.sub.x H.sub.2x).sub.m where x is 2 to 4, m is 1 to 20, and Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbons, or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; a is 0 to 2; R 3 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; b is 1 to 3; c is 0 or 1; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x, m and Z are as defined above, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided that there is no X - when R 4 is oxygen; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 3 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30 carbon atoms.

Claim 10

The composition of claim 1 wherein the source of alkalinity comprises 0.1% to 20% by weight of an organic base selected from the group consisting of mono-, di- and triethanolamines and isopropanolamines.

Claim 11

The composition of claim 1 wherein the source of alkalinity is an inorganic base selected from the group consisting of ammonium, sodium and potassium hydroxides, ortho- pyro- and tripolyphosphates, aluminates and carbonates.

Claim 12

The composition of claim 1 wherein the source of alkalinity comprises 0.05% to 5% by weight of sodium, potassium or ammonium hydroxide.

Claim 13

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR25##or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; b is 1 to 3; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x is 2 to 4, m is 1 to 20, and Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided that when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 4 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 5 and R 4 , when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 14

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR26##or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; a is 1 or 2; b is 1 to 3; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x is 2 to 4, m is 1 to 20, and Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided that when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atom and in R 2 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 15

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR27##or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; a is 0 to 2; R 3 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x is 2 to 4, m is 1 to 20, and Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided that when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 3 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 16

The composition of claim 1 wherein the organosilane has the formula ##STR28##or is a siloxane oligomer thereof wherein R 1 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; a is 0 to 2; b is 1 to 3; R 4 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a carboxy-substituted alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (C.sub.x H.sub.2x O).sub.m Z where x is 2 to 4, m is 1 to 20, and Z is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or oxygen provided only one R 4 is oxygen and further provided than when R 4 is oxygen there is no X -; R 5 is an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; X is bromide or chloride; and Y is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 30.

Claim 17

The composition of claim 1 wherein b is 1 and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 2 , R 3 , R 5 and R 4 when R 4 is alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or carboxy-substituted alkyl does not exceed 25.

Claim 18

The composition of claim 1 further incorporating a source of calcium, magnesium, or barium ions in an amount of from about 0.5% to about 10% by weight of the composition.

Claim 19

The composition of claim 1 intended for use as a light-duty dishwashing composition consisting essentially of: a. from 0.01% to 10% of the organosilane; b. from 5% to 90% of the water-soluble organic anionic detergent; c. from 0.1% to 20% of an organic base selected from the group consisting of mono-, di-, and triethanolamines and isopropanolamines; and d. the balance water.

Claim 20

A light-duty dishwashing composition according to claim 1 consisting essentially of: a. 0.1% to 2% of the organosilane; b. from 15% to 35% of the water-soluble anionic surfactant; c. from 3% to 25% of a nonionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of i. amine oxides of the formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 N → O wherein R 1 is a straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic hydrocarbon, hydroxyhydrocarbon, or alkyloxyhydrocarbon radical containing in total from 8 to 24 carbon atoms; and R 2 and R 3 are each a methyl, ethyl, hydroxymethyl, or hydroxyethyl radical; ii. amides of the formula R.sub.4 -CO-N(H).sub.m-1 (R.sub.5 OH).sub.2-m wherein R 4 is a saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing from 7 to 21 carbon atoms; R 5 represents a methylene or ethylene group; and m is 1, 1 or 2; iii. a condensation product of from about 3 to about 25 moles of alkylene oxide and one mole of an organic, hydrophobic compound, aliphatic or alkyl aromatic in nature selected from the group consisting of aliphatic alcohols, alkyl phenols, fatty acid esters, aliphatic fatty acids, fatty acyl alkanolamides, and alkyl, alkenyl and alkylaryl amines, the latter containing about 8 to about 24 carbon atoms; and mixtures thereof; d. from 2% to 10% by weight of an alkanolamine selected from the group consisting of mono-, di- and triethanolamines and isopropanolamines; e. from 2% to 10% by weight of mineral hardness ion present as a calcium, magnesium or barium chloride, nitrate, or hydroxide; f. from 1% to 20% of a lower alcohol containing from one to four carbon atoms; and g. the balance water.

Claim 21

The composition of claim 1 wherein the source of alkalinity is selected from the group consisting of mono-, di- and triethanolamine and isopropanolamines and ammonium, sodium, and potassium hydroxides, aluminates, phosphates, carbonates, and acetates.

Claim 22

The composition of claim 1 wherein the water-soluble, organic anionic detergent is a water-soluble salt or an organic sulfuric acid reaction product having in its molecular structure an alkyl radical containing from about 8 to about 22 carbon atoms and a radical selected from the group consisting of sulfonic acid and sulfuric acid ester radicals.

Claim 23

The composition of claim 9 wherein the organic base is present in an amount of from 2% to 10% by weight of the composition.

Claim 24

The composition of claim 11 wherein sodium or potassium hydroxide is present in an amount of from 0.1% to 2% by weight.

Claim 25

The composition of claim 16 wherein the ratio of organosilane to detergent is from 1:1 to 1:500.

Claim 26

The composition of claim 17 wherein the multivalent cations are selected from the group consisting of calcium and magnesium ions.

Claim 27

The composition of claim 17 wherein the source of multivalent cations is an calcium, magnesium or barium hydroxide.

Claim 28

The composition of claim 25 wherein the calcium or magnesium ions are incorporated in the form of water-soluble salts selected from the group consisting of calcium and magnesium chlorides and nitrates in an amount of from about 2% to about 10% by weight of the anhydrous salts.

Claim 29

The composition of claim 18 consisting essentially of: a. from 0.1% to 2% of the organosilane; b. from 10% to 40% of the water-soluble organic anionic detergent; c. from 2% to 10% of the alkanolamine; and d. the balance water.

Claim 30

The composition of claim 20 wherein the water-soluble, organic anionic detergent is selected from the group consisting of sodium, potassium, ammonium and mono-, di-, and triethanolammonium salts of higher fatty acids containing from 10 to 22 carbon atoms; sulfates of alcohols containing from 8 to 18 carbon atoms; alkyl benzene sulfonates in which the alkyl group contains from about 9 to about 15 carbon atoms; alkyl glyceryl ether sulfonates of alcohols derived from tallow or coconut oil, coconut oil, fatty acid, monoglycerides, sulfates, and sulfonates, sulfuric acid esters of the reaction product of one mole of a tallow or coconut oil fatty alcohol and about 1 to 6 moles of ethylene oxide; alkyl phenol ethylene oxide ether sulfates containing 1 to 10 units of ethylene oxide per molecule and 8 to 12 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical; fatty acid estearified isethionic acid, coconut fatty acid amides of methyl tauride and sulfonated alkyl olefins containing from 10 to 24 carbon atoms.

Claim 31

The composition of claim 19 additionally containing from 0.5% to 5% of sodium or potassium chloride.

Claim 32

The composition of claim 28 additionally containing from 0% to 20% of a hydrotrope selected from the group consisting of toluene, xylene, and cumene sulfonates and from 1% to 20% of a lower alcohol containing from one to four carbon atoms.
