Abstract

Abstract Logs to be sorted according to species, grade, length, diameter and a variety of other characteristics and parameters, are delivered one at a time crosswise to the infeed end of an elongated conveyor assembly formed of a plurality of longitudinally aligned, transversely articulated conveyors. A retractable stop is associated with the downstream end of each conveyor for releasable abutment by the logs as they progress along the conveyor assembly. Upon such abutment and subsequent tilting of the conveyor, the log thereon is lowered onto a registering transfer conveyor extending laterally thereof. At the outfeed end of the transfer conveyor the log is directed into a sort rack. When the latter has been filled with a plurality of like logs, they are removed as a group for subsequent processing.
