Abstract

Abstract A stack of loosely touching resistive or conductive plates, such as a carbon pile, with a characteristic arc discharge voltage applied to limit voltage, enabling the lowering of protection levels of bypass spark gaps in protection systems for series capacitors and to increase the benefit of the series capacitor by not requiring it to be removed from the line during brief overvoltages.
