Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 94 words
A process for the preparation of 1,4-diacyloxy-2-butene which comprises contacting one mol of butadiene with from about 2 to about 6 mols of an alkali metal salt of a lower fatty acid, in the presence of at least 1 mol relative to butadiene of a halogen selected from the group consisting of I 2 , ICl, or ICl 3 , the reaction being carried out under substantially anhydrous conditions at a temperature in the range from about 50° C to about 200° C for a period of from about 1/2 to about 24 hours.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 94 words
A process for the preparation of 1,4-diacyloxy-2-butene which comprises contacting one mol of butadiene with from about 2 to about 6 mols of an alkali metal salt of a lower fatty acid, in the presence of at least 1 mol relative to butadiene of a halogen selected from the group consisting of I 2 , ICl, or ICl 3 , the reaction being carried out under substantially anhydrous conditions at a temperature in the range from about 50° C to about 200° C for a period of from about 1/2 to about 24 hours.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
The process of claim 1 in which the fatty acid salt is potassium or sodium acetate.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
The process of claim 1 in which the halogen is employed in a molar amount relative to butadiene of from about 1:1 to 3:1.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 18 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of a water-absorbing solvent.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 17 words
The process of claim 4 in which the solvent is an anhydride of a lower aliphatic acid.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 12 words
The process of claim 5 in which the anhydride is acetic anhydride.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 66 words
A process for preparing 1,4-diacyloxy-2-butene which comprises contacting butadiene and an alkali metal salt of a lower fatty acid, in the presence of a catalytic amount of a halogen selected from the group consisting of I 2 , ICl, or ICl 3 , the reaction being carried out in the presence of acetic anhydride and an oxidant selected from the group consisting of air or oxygen.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 66 words
A process for preparing 1,4-diacyloxy-2-butene which comprises contacting butadiene and an alkali metal salt of a lower fatty acid, in the presence of a catalytic amount of a halogen selected from the group consisting of I 2 , ICl, or ICl 3 , the reaction being carried out in the presence of acetic anhydride and an oxidant selected from the group consisting of air or oxygen.
