Abstract
Abstract Benzoxazole or oxadiazole type compounds chemically combined with certain hydroxyaryl type compounds give greatly and unexpectedly improved ultraviolet stabilization to polymeric materials at concentrations ranging from about 0.05 to about 5.0 percent by weight, preferably from about 0.1 to about 2.0 percent by weight of the polymer being stabilized. These stabilizers are effective in the presence of other additives commonly employed in polymeric compositions including pigments, colorants, fillers, reinforcing agents and the like. These stabilizers may be incorporated into the polymer melt, dissolved in the polymer dope, or coated on the exterior of the molded article, film or extruded fiber.
