Abstract Acyl nitrile compounds of the formula: A--CN wherein A represents an acyl radical selected from aroyl, substituted aroyl, cinnamoyl, and the residue of a heterocyclic acid halide, are bleach activators of high strength and good activity in peroxygen salt bleach compositions.
