Heat sealing apparatus comprising a substantially heat sink substrate, two conductive legs extending from said substrate, heat insulation between said legs adjacent said substrate, heating means operatively associated with at least one of said legs and seal bar means joining said legs remote from said substrate, wherein said seal bar means is less heat conductive than said legs such that a temperature differential is established between the side thereof adjacent said heated leg and the opposite side thereof, said seal bar being further characterized as comprising multiple alternating layers of conductive and non-conductive material.
