Abstract

Abstract Water soluble mixed ester lubricants derived from triglycerides are obtained by transesterifying a triglyceride with a low molecular weight polyoxyethylene glycol in the presence of short-chain mono- or dicarboxylic acids. The mixed ester compositions of this invention are readily water soluble and are excellent lubricants for metalworking operations. Water solubility is achieved with the present mixed ester products even though they have higher triglyceride contents than previously known ester lubricants.
