Abstract A glass mixture for preparing lead-containing glass of the composition in % by weight: SiO.sub.2 20-65 B 2 O 3 <25 PbO 12-60 CaO <4 Al 2 O 3 0.5-5 BaO <8 Na 2 O <16 combined MnO <1 K 2 O <16 >1.5 As 2 O 3 /Sb 2 O 3 <1 with quartz sand having a particle size of ≦100 μm and felspars having a particle size of ≦100 μm.
