Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 139 words
A print wheel for an impact printer comprising an insert member having a plurality of beams extending radially outward from a generally circular center section in a substantially common plane with the beams being deflectible in a print direction generally normal to the common plane, character slugs near the outer ends of the beams having impact surfaces engageable by hammer means to deflect the slug in the print direction enabling print surfaces on the slugs shaped in the form of characters to cooperate in a process for marking a record medium, a first generally circular damper means adhesively coupled to one side of the beams, and a second generally circular damper means adhesively coupled to the other side of the beams, said first and second damper means being adhesively coupled to each other in the regions between the beams.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 139 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
The print wheel of claim 1 wherein said first and second damper means include a butadiene acrylonitrile copolymer coated nylon fabric.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 44 words
The print wheel of claim 1 having an outside diameter of about 3.10 inches and having a first and second damper means having an outside diameter of about 2.1 inches and an outside diameter greater than the diameter of the generally circular center section.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 51 words
The print wheel of claim 1 wherein the first and second damper means are coupled to the beams to alter their deflection properties by applying a load W to the beams, said load W approaches a load F required to deflect the beam the distance needed for marking a record member.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 100 words
The print wheel of claim 4 wherein the shear load for the damper coupled section of a beam is given by ##EQU5## and the shear load for the non-damper covered section of a beam is given by ##EQU6## and the damper means is located relative to the beams to obtain the condition wherein the ratio of W to F approaches unity wherein E is the modulus of elasticity, I is moment of inertia, ##EQU7## y n is the displacement at the point of damping, y o is the maximum displacement, and l e is the flexible length of the beam.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 34 words
The print wheel of claim 5 wherein E ≅ 29 × 10 6 psi, I ≅ 0.576 × 10.sup. -9 in 4 , l e ≅ 0.65 inch and y o ≅ 0.095 inch.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 50 words
The print wheel of claim 6 wherein the following relations are obtained for y n of 0.018, 0.019 and 0.020 inches: y.sub.n W F W/F ______________________________________ 0.018 0.0279 0.0216 1.29 0.019 0.0212 0.0195 1.08 0.020 0.0145 0.0174 0.83 ______________________________________ wherein W and F are in pounds and W/F is dimensionless.
