Abstract
Abstract An improved method for the preparation of intermediates of formula: ##EQU1## WHERE R 1 and R 2 represent hydrogen, C 1 -4 alkyl, C 1 -4 hydroxyalkyl, C 3 -10 cycloalkyl, C 3 -6 acyloxyalkyl, or phenyl, by mercuric ion assisted hydrolysis of the corresponding dithianes, and novel intermediates thereby produced.
