Abstract

Abstract An apparatus for catalytically cracking hydrocarbons comprising a riser reactor having a plurality of catalyst injectors positioned along the length thereof. Adjacent to and upstream of certain of the catalyst injectors, cyclone separators are connected to the reactor so that fluid which contains a partially converted or cracked hydrocarbon and catalyst pass therethrough for separating the catalyst from the fluid with the fluid being returned to the reactor. Fresh catalyst is introduced into the fluid after same exits the separator to continue the cracking process. Steam can also be introduced into the reactor adjacent the catalyst injectors.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 246 words
An apparatus for catalytically cracking hydrocarbons comprising: a. an elongate reactor having a chamber therein adapted for flow of fluid and catalyst therethrough, said chamber having an inlet and an outlet and being divided into a plurality of zones; b. a plurality of catalyst injection means each connected to a source of regenerated catalyst and communicating with said reactor chamber at spaced apart positions along the length thereof for injecting catalyst into each of said zones; c. a plurality of conduits each communicating between respective adjacent zones and forming flow paths therebetween; d. a plurality of cyclone separators each operatively associated with a respective said conduit to effect removal of catalyst from fluid flowing through said conduits and at least one cyclone separator communicating with said outlet to effect removal of catalyst from fluid discharged from said outlet; e. first means communicating with said separators for receiving separated catalysts from said separators; f. a regeneraor, which is said source of regenerated catalyst, communicating with said first means whereby removed catalyst passes to said regenerator, said catalyst injection means also communicate with said regenerator for flow of regenerated catalyst from same to said catalyst injection means; g. second means communicating with the furthest downstream disposed zone of said zones for introducing hydrocarbon material thereinto; and h. temperature responsive control means operatively associated with each said zone and respective said catalyst injection means to control the introduction of catalyst in response to the temperature in the respective zone.
