Abstract
Abstract A method is provided for making silarylenesilanediol, silarylenesiloxanediol and block copolymers of silarylenesiloxane and polydiorganosiloxane, useful as high-strength silicone rubber. Silarylenesiloxanediols can be prepared by heating an aqueous mixture of a dialkoxy silarylene and a water miscible organic solvent such as acetone, followed by distilling volatiles from the mixture. A mixture of the silarylenesilanediol or silarylenesiloxanediol, a silanol-terminated polydiorganosiloxane, organic solvent and a condensation catalyst can then be heated to effect removal of water of condensation to produce silarylenesiloxane block copolymer.
