An alkylated 3,20-diketo-Δ 4 -steroid of the pregnane series having the general formula: ##SPC5## , wherein X = a member of the group consisting of H, F and Cl; Y = a member of the group consisting of H(OH), H(OAcyl), the acyl group being derived from a lower alkanoic acid, and 0; R 1 = a member of the group consisting of H, CH 3 , F, and Cl; R 2 = a member of the group consisting of CH 3 and C 2 H 5 ; R 3 = a member of the group consisting of H, OAcyl, the acyl group being derived from an organic carboxylic acid having 1-18 carbon atoms, OCH 3 and CH 3 ; R 4 = a member of the group consisting of H and alkyl having 1-4 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R 4 is alkyl when R 3 is other than CH 3 ; and C 1 -c 2 and C 6 -C 7 are selected from a saturated and an unsaturated bond.
