Abstract

Abstract An electrostatographic developer mixture comprising finely divided toner particles electrostatically clinging to the surface of larger carrier beads, each of the carrier beads comprising a core particle surrounded by a thin outer layer of a poly(p-xylylene) polymer. Imaging processes of developing electrostatic latent images with the developer mixture are also disclosed.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 122 words
An electrostatographic reversal development imaging process comprising the steps of providing an electrostatographic imaging member having a recording surface, forming an electrostatic latent image on said recording surface, and contacting said electrostatic latent image with a developer mixture comprising finely-divided toner particles electrostatically clinging to the surface of carrier particles capable of generating a negative triboelectric charge when mixed with said toner particles, said carrier particles comprising more core particles having an average diameter between about 1 micron and about 1,000 microns, and said core particles being surrounded by a thin outer layer consisting of poly(p-xylylene), whereby at least a portion of said finely-divided toner particles are attracted to and deposited on said recording surface in conformance with said electrostatic latent image.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 122 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 14 words
An electrostatographic imaging process according to claim 1 wherein said poly(p-xylylene) is a polymer.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 14 words
An electrostatographic imaging process according to claim 1 wherein said poly(p-xylylene) is a copolymer.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 26 words
An electrostatographic imaging process according to claim 1 wherein said thin outer layer of poly(p-xylylene) is from about 50 Angstroms to about 5 microns in thickness.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 65 words
An electrostatographic imaging process according to claim 1 wherein said poly(p-xylylene) contains repeating units of the structures ##SPC5## wherein R and R' are nuclear substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, amino, cyano, carboxyl, alkoxy, hydroxy alkyl, carbaloxy, hydroxyl, nitro, and halogen groups which may be the same or different, and x and y are each integers from 1 to 4 inclusive.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 32 words
An electrostatographic imaging process according to claim 5 wherein x and y are the same and R and R' are the same and said poly(p-xylylene) is a homopolymer having the structure: ##SPC6##
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 29 words
An electrostatographic imaging process according to claim 5 wherein R and R' and/or x and y are different and said poly(p-xylylene) is a copolymer having the general structure: ##SPC7##
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 14 words
An electrostatographic imaging process according to claim 1 wherein said core particles are metal.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 13 words
An electrostatographic imaging process according to claim 8 wherein said metal is steel.
