An improved lubricating composition comprising a mineral lubricating oil having incorporated therein a small quantity sufficient to improve the anti-wear properties of the resulting lubricating composition of an alkylbenzyl mercaptan of the formula ##SPC2## wherein each R is hydrogen or an alkyl group, wherein at least one alkyl group is present in the molecule, and wherein there is a total of from 6 to about 25 carbon atoms in all of the combined R groups.
