Abstract
Abstract Polyoctenamers, in which more than 80% of the C=C-double bonds are in the cis-configuration, with a second order transition temperature of approximately -90°C, a crystallisation temperature of from -30° to +10°C and a melting point of +10 to +40°C and a process for its production, wherein cyclooctene and, optionally, up to 20% by weight, based on the monomer total, of another cyclic olefin are polymerised in an inert organic solvent at temperatures of from -50° to +10°C in the presence of a catalyst of A. a tungsten halide or oxyhalide, B. an alcohol or a halogen substituted alcohol, C. an organometallic compound of aluminium, and D. boron trifluoride or boron trifluoride etherate.
