Claim 1
Independent Claim
91 words
A contact lens which comprises a terpolymer hydrogel containing from about 55% to about 85% by weight of water based on the total weight of the hydrogel, the molecular structure of said terpolymer including alkaline carboxylate moieties therein and being the hydrated polymeric product resulting from the polymerization of a monomer mixture comprising 30-50% by weight of N-vinyl lactam, up to 3% by weight of a glycol dimethacrylate or diacrylate, 0.25-5.6% by weight acrylic or methacrylic acid and a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate monomer which constitutes the balance of the mixture.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
15 words
The contact lens according to claim 1 in which the N-vinyl lactam is N-vinyl pyrrolidone.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
91 words
A contact lens which comprises a hydrogel containing from about 55% to about 85% by weight of water based on the total weight of the hydrogel, said hydrogel being a hydrated crosslinked terpolymer obtained by: a. addition polymerization of a monomer mixture essentially consisting of 35-40% by weight N-vinyl pyrrolidone, about 1.75-2.8% by weight methacrylic acid, about 0.5-2.0% by weight ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, and the balance being hydroxyethyl methacrylate; and b. hydrating the addition polymerization product so as to convert the free carboxylic acid groups therein to ionized alkaline carboxylate groups.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
